Hi Aimee,
First of all, this was an extremely technical article from my viewpoint. I also found it quite long and difficult to follow at some points. I'm pretty sure I got the basics of the article that was comparing the older ideas of what the web was to the newer idea of what the web has become. It kind of reminds me of the PC and MAC ad on TV...one being stronger but more cubersome and the other kind of cool and user friendly. It seems that the web has become more "user friendly" with the help of those who create products platforms?) that are more "socialable" and less business-like.
I was interested in the comment that Google was the "middleman between the user and the online experience." I'm not sure what that means, but would conjecture that Google has more acess to a variety of online services as opposed to targeting a specific audience. If this explanation seems unclear, it is because I'm still working through internet jargon. I also feel that although this is geat background informaton, a "show-me" approach works better for my learning style.
However, I'll keep on trying!

I, too found the article rather "techie." Wading through the jargon, I found that what makes something "web 2.0" is its level of participation from visitors, its seamless integration into other applications, and its social nature. Basically, it sounds like the web is going "extrovert!"
